The leather
At Hymness, we only work with quality leather, tanned to strict European standards. We place high demands on our materials to ensure both quality and responsible production.
The Portuguese tannery we work with has received several awards and recognitions for their responsible and innovative processes – including for their bio-leather used in Hymness products. To maintain the high standards, all batches undergo a final test for strength and contamination.
Hvad er biolæder?
Vi arbejder med Bio-læder, som er et innovativt materiale udviklet uden brug af tungmetaller som krom og andre metalbaserede garvestoffer. I stedet anvendes en skånsom, EU-anerkendt proces, der minimerer belastningen af både mennesker og miljø.
Garveriet bag læderet har mere end 30 års erfaring med metalfri garvning og har modtaget priser, for deres banebrydende tilgang til læderproduktion, – herunder deres egenudviklede type læder ved navn Biocouro, som bruges i vores kollektion.

Understand our internal quality references
Use this quick guide to decode the name and number in our leather references. We use pattern numbers to make it easier for you as a customer to recognize and navigate between the different qualities.
Example: Tara D101 Black
– Tara = style name
– D101 = quality number
– Black = color reference
We work with Bio-leather, an innovative material developed without the use of heavy metals such as chromium and other metal-based tanning agents. Instead, a gentle, EU-recognized process is used that minimizes the impact on both people and the environment.
The tannery behind the leather has more than 30 years of experience with metal-free tanning and has received awards for their groundbreaking approach to leather production – including their in-house developed article Biocouro , which is used in our collection.
Choosing Bio-leather is not just about responsible production – it also provides a supple, durable and thoroughly tested material that you can use every day with a clear conscience.
D101 - Blød struktur
D101 is our exclusive Bio Crispex leather with a soft finish that gives a natural soft look to our bags.
D102 - Fast struktur
D101 is in principle the same quality as 101, but the finish is slightly different in that it has not undergone the same softening finish as D101, which allows us to achieve a firmer shape in our bags - with the same leather. This allows us to split our batch after the tanning process and thereby create bags with a soft or firmer look.

Kvalitets test af læderet
Test af læderet, er en fast procedure. Testen udføres både som et led i kontrollen af kvaliteten generelt, og for dokumentation af hvert batch.
RUB TEST
Læderet testes for afsmitning i tør og våd tilstand.
Flexion test
Læderets flesibilitet og styrkes testes med gentagende bevægelser, der simulerer pratisk brug af det endelige materiale.
