Care Guide Jewellery

Care to keep...

With the proper care, your jewelries will last a lifetime.

Precious metals and natural materials will change over time, but we've gathered some tips on how to care for your jewelry and keep them for many years.

Recycled 925 Sterling silver

Hymness' are made with recycled 925 Sterling silver. Pure silver, or 'fine silver', is a relatively soft and easily damaged, so to make it more durable, the pure silver, is made with 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper. This means that our jewelries are 100% nickel-free.

18k Gold Vermeil

Vermeil - now what's that? Basically, it means that the jewelry has a precious metal cast or core and an 18 karats gold-plating above 2.5-micron gold layers.

Hymness always uses 18k gold that is 2.5 or above microns thick, as required by the Federal Trade Commission to classify vermeil, layered over sterling silver. All 18k gold vermeil pieces are stamped with '925', verifying the Sterling silver core. The gold is recycled 18karats yellow gold,  and is a blend of 75% gold, 12,5% silver and 12,5% copper and 100% nickel free.

Clean your jewelry

Pour a small amount of mild soap in to lukewarm water and use a small, soft toothbrush to clean your jewelry. Rinse in clean water and dry with a silver cloth.

Gold plated/gold vermeil ect. and oxidized jewelry are more sensitive to cleaning. Gently clean with a very soft toothbrush or cloth. If you rub too intense, it may cause your gold plating to fade away.

If your silver jewelry has become dull, a silver-polishing cloth is a great tool to make it shiny again. However, it will not remove the scratches.

Store your jewelry
Jewelry must be stored away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. The best way to store it, is in a separate cloth pouch or box.

Never store your jewelry in a plastic bag, rubber or metal box, as this will make your jewelry tarnish faster.

Do not store your jewelry in the bathroom or other humid places.

Jewelry cloth
Avoid hard rubbing, as it will eventually tear off your oxidized or gold plating (including gold filled which is basically extra plated layers).

So be gentle when you clean your jewelry - Always!

Hagerty jewelry cloth is soft cloth and will not scratch or mark your jewelry. It is suitable for instantly removing dirt from rings, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, brooches and more.

Replace the cloth when it turns completely black, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

Hymness can’t guarantee that the gold pleating or oxidized finish will last forever.

Gold pleated pieces and oxidized finishes are, more fragile and liable to lose their color over time. How fast the finish will fade, depends on multiple variables from exposure to chemical products in skincare, cleaning, your skin PH, sunlight, moisture and use. This is why it is so important that you take special care of your jewelry.

Allow all perfume, lotions or other body chemicals too dry, before putting on your jewelry.

Avoid exposing to household chemicals, like bleach and ammonia, when swimming in chlorinated water, as these chemicals will tarnish the jewelry.

Avoid wearing your jewelry when swimming in the ocean and during sports as sweat and salty waters will also change the color.
